Muscle Recovery

Now we all know how important Oxygen is during exercise. Let’s take a look at how Oxygen can help muscle recovery. By increasing Oxygen intake, your body
produces more energy during recovery resulting in more strength. When you
exercise your muscles move more vigorously and their metabolic rate increases. In order to get more energy they produce chemical energy molecule ATP. You need Oxygen to produce ATP, so the more ATP you produce, the more Oxygen your body requires.

When you are done exercising, your body is in Oxygen debt and runs out of ATP, glycogen and myoglobin. In order to refill deficit of these chemicals, your body requires Oxygen. Which is why Oxygen is so important for your recovery. During recovery, following things take place:

  • Breathing Oxygen, refills the myoglobin oxygen stores in your muscles.
  • Your body’s glycogen supplies are being refilled after you drink a protein shake or eat any other food. This food is being converted into glucose with the help of Oxygen.
  • ATP levels that has been used out completely, are being restored by the combination of Oxygen and glycogen.
  • Last but not least, you have to deal with the built up lactic and pyruvic acid in the kidneys and liver. Oxygen is required to break these acids down in order to convert it into ATP.
Recovery require a great amount of Oxygen. While the air we breathe has only about 20% oxygen or less, breathing oxygen in oxygen bars can help you restock your body’s oxygen supply more efficiently and in much less time.
